fashion photography

Fashion! its everywhere you look, outside, on people, in magazines, in shops. its everywhere and always will be. Fashion is such a big and wide industry i almost dont know where to start. but lets start with fashion and clothes itself! why do people worrys so much about fashion? why is the questions of is that fashionable or does it look good on me always in the back of everyones mind? why has such a simple thing as clothes taken over the world for people to worry about it as if it was important? now im not saying i dont care what i wear or what i look like, because i will admitt i do maybe more than the adverage person. but i still wonder why?

im leaving that question for you to find out but im basing my answer on magazines and adverts. and where are there more adverts for fashion than fashions biggest and world wide known vogue magazine.

A question that frequently pops up in the world of photography is when is a image a portrait and when is it a fashion photograph? this question can easily be answered but at the same time very hard to answer as a lot of fashion photography can be classed as portraits. In my opinion a fashion photograph is when the clothes are made out to be the main atraction but the face and hair are beautifuly in proportion and look great, the face and body had been photoshopped and the picture would make a great advert. weither the person is famous or not. And a portrait photograph is not focused on the clothes but the face and the expression on the face. maybe even the surrounding area. it shows the person for who they really are and looks deep into them and not the front they may be putting on.
just like these two images of rihanna, you can really tell the diffrence from which is a fashion photo and which is a portait. the first one is focused on the clothes and the hair, it has been photoshopped, and it has been used at the front cover for a magazine. were as the second one is all about the face and her expression, the inoccent but cheeky smile on her face and natural beauty. of couse she is wearing make up but no where near as much as she is in the first photo.

  1. Unit 57.1 Grade Merit:

You have explained the main photographic applications, contexts and the associated techniques in relation to past and contemporary photographic practice; you have used for the most part clear and accurate language
and appropriate technical vocabulary. Your work shows clear reference to a range of detailed illustrative examples in each case.

To obtain a Distinction grade you would need to fully justify the points you make, and develop ideas critically (that is, compare, assess and discriminate) and draw out of an example precisely what it is about it that proves the point you are trying illustrate.
